Chandelier parts: Pivots of smooth functioning



Chandelier parts‘ basically refers to the various sectors constituting the lighting device. As a customer, you would be at an advantageous position when you know the terms of the different parts of the shade and also their locations. It will also help you to cross check the various parts of the lighting device.

We append short placement descriptions of the chandelier parts in alphabetical order:

1. Arm

This portion is also known as the branch. It refers to the part that bears the light.

2. Arm Plate

Made of wood or metal, this block on the stem is the portion into which the arms slot.

3. Bag

The bag is the typical mark of American crystal and regency-style chandeliers. The term refers to a bag of crystal drops hanging from a frame circular in shape. The drops are formed by strings looped backwards from underneath into the centre.

4. Baluster

It is the molded stem or turned wood that forms the axis of the chandelier. It is marked by bulbous and narrow alternating parts of different widths.

5. Beads

These are glass drops having holes drilled right through their centers.

6. Bobeche

This structure, also known as drip pan, is a dish dovetailed to hold the wax drips. It is, hence, fitted immediately below the candle nozzle.

7. Candlebeam

This is the cross-shaped two-beam wooden frame typical of candle chandeliers. There can be two or more prickets or cups at each end.

8. Candle nozzles

These small cups are slots for candle ends.

9. Canopy

It’s a shallow dish atop a chandelier. This inverted structure renders a flourish at the topmost portion of the lighting tool. The flourish appears from the suspended festoons of beads.

10. Cage

This is the metallic central stem structure that supports the arms and other decorations. Such a stem has more space for embellishments and candles. Earlier, this stem was non-metallic.

11. Drop

A drop usually dangles with a brass pin from a chandelier. Further chain drops drilled at both ends aid the fitting of additional series of embellishments to form festoons or a necklace. It is a small glass piece cut into many shapes.

12. Festoon

This is an arrangement of glass beads or drops. It is draped and hung down or across a crystal chandelier. It is also called a ‘garland’. A festoon can also be a piece of glass shaped into swag.
