A crystal chandelier is a customized lighting fixture. In fact, each of them is a reflection of the medieval form of this beauty hanging from the roof.

The science of crystal structure and formation is called crystallography. Crystallographers are at constant work to evolve better and easier high-tech techniques to make this medieval art-form a better business proposal.

TRACING THE ROOTS OF ‘CRYSTAL’ & ‘CHANDELIER’

The root of the English word ‘crystal’ is the Greek term ‘krustallos’ which means clear or crystal. It is also used to refer to any transparent colorless mineral like rock crystal or any piece of it. However, the most commonly used reference is a highly transparent glass. It can be a flint glass or any items made with them.

Scientifically, the terminology ‘crystal‘ connotes the convergence or collection of certain molecules having an obvious internal structure while its overall external structure is akin to a compact whole. Such a complex structure is always arranged by a plane surface or float- ups arranged symmetrically and in perfect co-ordination to each other.

CHANDELIER: On the other hand, this ceiling-mounted light fixture is basically a decorative piece having several arms having provisions to bear lights. The minimum arms of a crystal chandelier are two.

ARE CHANDELIERS ONLY ELECTRICITY OPERATED?

It is not necessary that they have only electrical lighting appliances like the normal bulbs or the CFL ones. In fact, these lighting accessories serve as attractive showpieces with simple lighted candles.

Whatever source of power you may you use, one thing is for sure, though… they conjure up a romantic old-time magical ambience.

These crystal chandeliers are manufactured from crystal glass having a certain amount of lead content. Since there are the two elements of glass and lead, such illumination furnishings are also known as lead crystal.

It is due to the lead element that the glass acquires the three typical qualities, viz., softness, resonance and clarity which make it ideal to be cut into any shapes and sizes. There are many types and styles of these fittings.

The specialties of crystal chandeliers are their ornate nature rendered by the hundreds of lamps as well as the crystal prisms or glass arrays arranged in a complex but scientific manner.
